DOG...
The very word conjures the synonyms loyal, noble, friend, and protector. Their memory goes far back in the annals of time. It seems as though
they have been with us from the beginning. They have hunted along side of us, walked in front of us to guide and pull us, they have been behind to track and detect us; they have been loved and placed on pedestals above us, hated, kicked, and tripped on below us, and they have walked endless miles to find and be with us.
Dogs have been our ears, eyes, and nose
yet there has never been a more
misunderstood creature.
There are hundreds of breeds of dogs, bred for a variety of activities. There are hounds, sporting, non-sporting, working, herding, toys, and terriers
-- from the very large that can pull you down the street to the very tiny that could almost be carried away with a gust of wind -- from the courageous and ferocious to the meek and the timid.
The one thing dogs all have in common is their love for the pack. They are just as capable of packing up with humans, cats, or goats as they are with their own kind, which has been very beneficial to the race that the humans have been running for a millennia.
So....... next time you look down at your
fur-bearing buddy and pat their head, ask yourself
a question - - did their great ancestors run some
of the race with your great ancestors?

A salute goes out to all our veterans, both those on two legs and on four!
